Police Personnel Secure Court Buildings Ahead of Presidential Election Disputes

JAKARTA (MKRI) — Ahead of the preliminary hearing of the 2024 presidential election results disputes (presidential PHPU), police officers are prepared to secure the Constitutional Court (MK) buildings. Spokesperson Fajar Laksono said that the security officers are prepared for inside the buildings and areas around it.

“Inside the Court buildings, we have 130 police officers who have been stationed in the Court, while the Police secure areas outside [the buildings],” he said when interviewed by the pres.

Concrete barriers and barbed wires were set up to prevent any hazardous activities, Fajar explained. The Court has also arranged the parking areas and secured the entrance and exit access for the constitutional justices and the petitioners.

“These are efforts to prevent undesirable things; it includes parking and so on. The entrance for the justices and the litigating parties are also anticipated,” he said.

Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidate Number 1 Anies Rasyid Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidate Number 3 Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD have filed a presidential PHPU petition to the Court. The 01 campaign team (Timnas) filed it on Thursday, March 21, while the 03 campaign team (TPN) did so on Saturday afternoon, March 23.

Based on the Constitutional Court Regulation (PMK) No. 1 of 2024 on the stages, activities, and schedule for the resolution of general election results disputes of members of House of Representatives, Regional Representatives Council, and Regional Legislative Council as well as the president-vice president, the Court would first settle the presidential PHPU within 14 workdays since the petition is recorded in the electronic constitutional case registration book (e-BRPK). The preliminary hearing for the presidential PHPU will take place on Wednesday, March 27.
