JAKARTA (MKRI) — Paniai regent-vice regent candidates 4 Thomas Yeimo-Yeri Adii have filed a petition challenging the 2024 Paniai regent election results to the Constitutional Court (MK) on Wednesday evening, December 18, 2024 at the Court’s main building. In the petition, they alleged structured, systematic, and massive (TSM) violations in the election process.

“[Those violations] did occur. Votes for our candidate pair were transferred to another,” said legal counsel Walidi. He alleged that the Petitioners had earned 48 thousand votes, a significant number. However, during recapitulation of the C1 forms to the D1 forms, those votes were transferred to Candidate Pair 1.

Yeimo also stressed that those violations had spread widely on social media and caught the public’s attention. “There was some commotion during the plenary [recapitulation],” he added.

He further explained that his team had reported the violations to Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body), which he believes has made a recommendation to the KPU (General Elections Commission) so that the plenary recapitulation on December 11 and 14 be canceled. “However, the KPU dismissed the recommendation and went ahead with the recapitulation,” legal counsel Waldi said.

Alleged Vote Transfer in Tolikara

Tolikara regent-vice regent candidates Nus Weya-Yan Wenda have also challenged the election results. Legal counsel Yance Tenouye revealed that votes in the regency election had allegedly been transferred. He revealed that instead of winning up to 75 thousand votes, Nus Weya-Yan Wenda only won 43 thousand.

“The rest were transferred to another candidate pair,” Tenouye alleged.

He explained that in the KPU’s certification of Tolikara Regency election results, the results from six subdistricts were not recapitulated at the regency level. This, he stressed, flouted proper procedure.

“Bawaslu has actually issued a recommendation on this matter, but it was not implemented by the KPU,” he added.

On the same day, three other petitions were filed to the Court—one by Intan Jaya regent-vice regent candidates Bernadus Kobogau-Melianus Agimbau, one on Papua Highland Province election by Delpedro Marhaen Rismansyah, executive director of Lokataru Foundation, and another on Papua Province election by Matius Fakhiri Aryoko Alberto Ferdinand Rumaropen.

Until 23:42 WIB on Wednesday, December 18, the list of the 2024 regional election results dispute petitions on the Court’s website showed 307 petitions have been lodged thus far, with 158 lodged on site while the other 149 were filed online through SIMPEL. Out of them, 20 petitions challenge the governor election, 238 were on the regent election, and 49 were on the mayor election.
