JAKARTA (MKRI) — Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates Number 1 Anies Rasyid Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN) and their legal team had a press conference after the preliminary hearing of the 2024 presidential election results dispute in the main building of the Constitutional Court (MK) in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. To journalists, Baswedan said there had been violations in the 2024 election, which affect the quality of Indonesia’s democracy and the nation’s direction in the future.
“The constitutional justices stated that we are at the crossroad [where] all kinds of intervention have been allowed, creating a habit that has been repeated in the next regional and presidential elections. When a habit continues, it becomes a culture and eventually the character of the nation, if not corrected. It [should] not repeat so that [the election] will have integrity and fairness and the results credible,” he said.
He stressed that he trusts the constitutional justices to make an important, righteous, honest, and fair decision for a better direction and democracy in Indonesia with integrity. He believes this crossroad will have a very long impact on Indonesia’s journey in the future.
01 Brings Proof
Meanwhile, chair of the legal team of Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar’s campaign team (Timnas) Ari Yusuf Amir said the root of the issue is violations of the Constitution. This was argued at the preliminary hearing that took place at 08:00-10:00 WIB. He revealed that all the arguments have proof.
“There are proof for all the documents presented. This is not merely narrative but provable fact. [God willing], the witnesses and experts will be presented at the hearings,” he said.
Responding to the question as to why former chief constitutional justice Hamdan Zoelva, who is also chair of the advisory board of AMIN’s legal team, Ari stressed that the presidential ticket had agreed not to involve the former chief constitutional justice in the proceedings.
“We uphold ethics. It is important to us. [Hamdan Zoelva] has interest [in the case] but ethics is more important. It would be unethical [for him to attend hearings] as he was once a former chief constitutional justice. In time we will present public officials, but that would depend on the constitutional justices whether they give permission or not. This is important in order to reveal the real facts,” Ari said to journalists.
No Contest Against KPU Decision
Meanwhile, vice chair of the Prabowo-Gibran Defense Team Otto Hasibuan wondered why the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates Number 1 do not contest the General Elections Commission’s (KPU) decision as the object of the petition. He stated that they question the Government’s actions, while the KPU is the respondent in the case.
“I did not see any contest against what the KPU did, the KPU’s actions. What they question is in fact the Government’s and the President’s actions, who are not among the litigants in this case. This is unusual,” Hasibuan said during the team’s press conference after the preliminary hearing.
He said Anies-Muhaimin also do not question Prabowo-Gibran’s actions during the 2024 election. “So, the position of Candidate Pair 02 is correct. Not one of their actions are called into question,” he said. He alleged that the petition is aimed at discrediting the Government, especially President Joko Widodo and vice-presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
KPU Prepares Evidence
Meanwhile, KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari said the KPU will prepare evidence and witnesses to respond to the petition by Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates Number 1. “In essence, we listened carefully, read, and will give notes to the subject matters of the Petitioner’s petition,” he said.

In the case No. 2/PHPU.PRES-XXII/2024, they allege that President Joko Widodo has committed nepotism.
