Adies Kadir was born in Balikpapan on October 17, 1968. He was raised in a family that strongly upheld moral values, the rule of law, and education. This upbringing was shaped by his father, Abdul Kadir Mapong, who once served as Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia.
Adies completed his primary and secondary education in Kuala Kapuas, Samarinda, and Kupang. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Wijaya Kusuma University in 1992. He later obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 2003 from Merdeka University of Surabaya and his Master of Laws in 2007 from Merdeka University of Malang. In 2017, he was awarded a Doctorate in Law from University of 17 August 1945. He was subsequently inaugurated as Professor of Law at Sultan Agung Islamic University in 2025.
Professionally, Adies Kadir built his career in both the legal and entrepreneurial sectors. He has held various strategic roles, including managing partner at a law firm, general manager, and president director. Beyond his professional pursuits, he was actively involved in several mass organizations, which eventually paved the way for his role as a legislator.
He began his political career by joining the Golongan Karya Party (Golkar). Over the years, he held several key positions, including Chair of the Party Court, Chair of the Legal and Human Rights Division of the Golkar Party, and Deputy Chair of the Ethics Council of the House of Representatives (DPR). Since 2024, he has served as Deputy Speaker of the DPR for Economic and Financial Affairs.
Amid his demanding responsibilities as both practitioner and politician, Adies has consistently maintained the academic tradition instilled in him from an early age. He has articulated his thoughts and ideas in several books, including Menyelamatkan Wakil Tuhan, Menjaga Moral Pejabat Publik, and Memahami Hukum dan Politik Indonesia dari Senayan. In addition, he has authored various scholarly works on law, judicial power, as well as economic and corporate governance studies.
On January 27, 2026, the DPR Plenary Session resolved to appoint Adies Kadir as a Constitutional Justice, replacing Arief Hidayat, who retired on February 3, 2026. (SRN/YS)
