Court Grants Withdrawal of Yapen Islands Election Dispute Petition

JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) granted the Petitioners’ request to withdraw the petition for Case No. 271/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025 on the 2024 Yapen Islands regent election results dispute. The petition’s withdrawal was requested by Regent-Vice Regent Candidate Pair 3 Welliam R. Manderi–Yohanes G. Raubaba.

The ruling hearing was held in the plenary courtroom and chaired by Chief Justice Suhartoyo on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

"[The Court] grants the withdrawal of the Petitioners' petition for Case No. 271/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025," Chief Justice Suhartoyo read while delivering the verdict.

The decree, said Chief Justice Suhartoyo, was the result of a justice deliberation meeting taking place on Thursday, January 30. They then will order the Registrar's Office to return the petition copies to the Petitioners.

The petition had been filed on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. In their petitums, they requested the Court to annul the Yapen Islands Regency Elections Commission (KPU) Decree No. 1278 concerning the certification of the recapitulation of the 2024 Yapen Islands Regency election results. Besides, the Petitioners also requested the Court to order the Yapen Islands KPU to disqualify the winner in the election and to carry out a revote in all polling stations.

Yet, the Petitioners withdrew their petition at the preliminary hearing at the Court on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The withdrawal was directly stated by one of the Petitioners Welliam R Manderi before panel 1.
