JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court Ethics Council (MKMK) held another preliminary hearing on a report by Zico Leonard Djagardo Simanjuntak in a panel courtroom on its second building on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 starting at 13:30 WIB. At the closed hearing, Ethics Council chair I Dewa Gede Palguna and members Yuliandri and Ridwan Mansyur heard the testimony and/or defense by the Reported Justice Anwar Usman.

In case No. 08/MKMK/L/05/2024, Simanjuntak mentioned that the subject of his report was alleged violation of the principle of decency and propriety by Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman. He believes that as a constitutional justice, Justice Anwar should have accepted restrictions, especially in relation to lawyers whose cases are being heard in the Constitutional Court. He said Muhammad Rullyandi was a legal counsel to the General Elections Commission (KPU), the Respondent of election results dispute cases, in two ongoing cases.

These two cases are the DPR-DPRD (House of Representatives-Regional Legislative Council) election cases of South Sumatra Province filed by Sugondo, a Golkar (Party of Functional Groups) candidate, and of Bekasi Regency filed by Sarim Saefudin, another Golkar candidate. On the other hand, at the State Administrative Court (PTUN), the Reported (Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman) presented Rullyandi as an expert for his lawsuit to challenge his dismissal as chief justice. The Ethics Council will follow up this report by summoning the Reported, whose results will be decided at a hearing to deliver the Council’s verdict.
