JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a follow-up hearing on the 2024 election results dispute (PHPU) for the DPR (House of Representatives), Provincial DPRD/DPRP (Regional Legislative Council/Papuan People’s Representatives’ Council), and Regency/City DPRD/DPRK (Regency Legislative Council) of South Papua Province on Wednesday May 29, 2024. The Democratic Party disputed the election results in the electoral district of Asmat 3, affecting the seat allocation in South Papua Province.
Hironimus Markus Fofid, Asmat Regency General Elections Commission (KPU) member and a witness for the Respondent in Case No. 267-01-01-35/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024, stated that PDI-P (Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle) witnesses had objections, which were brought to Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body).
“After the results were certified, PDI-P raised objections for electoral districts 1 and 3. These objections were recorded in the incident form and carried to the provincial-level plenary meeting,” he explained.
“At the regency-level plenary meeting, PDI-P raised objection, feeling it lost a seat in these districts,” he noted.
Additionally, he said that because PDI-P had lost a seat, it raised objection at the district recapitulation plenary meeting.
