JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a hearing on the 2024 DPRD (Regional Legislative Council) election results dispute for Papua Pegunungan Province on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 in the plenary courtroom. The petition No. 146-02-14-37/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXI/2024 was filed by Efraim Jendrik A. Wandik from the Democratic Party.

The Respondent’s legal counsel Stevanus Budiman said that the Lanny Jaya Regency KPU (General Elections Commission) conducted a regency-level plenary session in 39 districts in Lanny Jaya Regency at the Nirimok Hall, Lanny Jaya Regency. At the time, there was no objection from the Democratic Party witnesses for the DPRD election of Papua Pegunungan Province as shown by the lack of D-objection form from witnesses. In addition, there were no recommendations from the Lanny Jaya Regency Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body) and the Petitioner’s petition only concerns nine districts in Lanny Jaya Regency.

Meanwhile, Bawaslu, represented by Sanggup Abidin, emphasized that the Lanny Jaya Regency Bawaslu issued a notification letter dated February 18, 2024 to the chairman of the Lanny Jaya KPU. In essence, Bawaslu asked the Regency KPU to ensure that the ad hoc positions (PPD/district election committee and TPS/polling stations) to carry out the recapitulation of results from the PPD and PPS (polling committee) levels following the appropriate mechanisms and procedures.

“Based on information submitted by all district supervisors in Lanny Jaya Regency, C-results forms and district/subdistrict D-results forms were not submitted to the election supervisors at the polling station, village, and district/subdistrict levels. Therefore, the Lanny Jaya Regency Bawaslu and the Papua Pegunungan Province Bawaslu did not get the C-results forms and the district/subdistrict D-results forms,” he explained.
