JAKARTA, (MKRI) — Twenty-six students participating in the second batch of the Constitutional Court’s (MK) internship program were welcomed by Acting Secretary-General Heru Setiawan and Acting Head of the Human Resources and Organization Department Andi Hakim in the hall of the Court’s second building on Monday, May 15, 2023. Middle-rank librarian Hanindyo, case registration administrator Syamsudin Noer, Head of the Facilities and Hearing Technical Services Department Johan Yustisianto, assistant to constitutional justice Rima Yuwana Yustikaningrum, and court hearing administrator Achmad Dodi Haryadi were also in attendance.

In his opening remarks, Andi Hakim said the Court did not limit internship only to law students. “With the cross-major in [the Court’s] internship program, hopefully students can broaden and share their knowledge during the program,” he said.

Hakim also said that the internship commenced on May 15 to June 16 on site. “This is the second [on-site internship program] after not opening such a program since the pandemic hit in 2020 until the end of 2022, when the Court only held online internship programs. This was due to restrictions and regulations that dictated the limitation of indoor activities. Only in 2023 did the Court opened its doors to student [interns] from within and outside the country to learn directly from practitioners in the Court,” he explained.

However, he added that despite being carried out online, the Court’s internship programs did not stop during the pandemic. There were no issues during those programs aside from occasional connection problems.

Meanwhile, Syamsudin Noer as a mentor urged the participants to think tactically as agents of change. “You must obtain the local wisdom wherever you are,” he said.

He also stressed that the participants understand the Court’s vision and mission and be outstanding agents of change.

On this first day, the interns were introduced to the Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General of the Constitutional Court through a visit to the Constitution History Center (Puskon), several of the staff offices. They followed a briefing by an assistant to constitutional justice. The internship will take place for four weeks.

The interns are from eight universities in Indonesia. They are students of law, government administration, and criminology.
