JAKARTA, HUMAS MKRI – Thirty-eight students from various universities in Indonesia participating in the Constitutional Court’s internship program were welcomed by Acting Secretary-General Heru Setiawan and Acting Head of the Human Resources and Organization Department Andi Hakim in the hall of the Court’s second building on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Head of the Center for Research, Case Review, and Library Management Kurniasih Panti Rahayu, librarian Hanindyo, and expert assistant to constitutional justice Alboin Pasaribu were also in attendance.

In his opening speech, Heru said that the Constitutional Court develops its capacity transparently, as shown by its publicly-accessible website, which shows all of the Court’s activities. This, he said, is the Court’s effort to realize justice for justice seekers and the general public.

“The Court embraces the concept of fairness, which means that everything or all of its activities will be communicated to the public, ranging from the schedules of hearings and the agendas, and non-hearing activities, transcripts of the hearings, and its decisions. All are displayed on the Court’s website that can be accessed by anyone at any time,” he explained.

For that reason, he hoped students who have the opportunity to intern and interact with all Court staff members would use their time to learn and gain as much experience as possible so that when they return to campus, they can share the Court’s values. In addition, he reminded the interns to carry out every program the Court offers seriously.

Students’ Enthusiasm

Meanwhile, Andi Hakim in his report revealed that, since 2020 until the end of 2022 due to the pandemic, the Court only offered online internship because regulations put restrictions on indoor activities. It was only in 2023 that it re-opened its doors to students from within and outside the country to learn directly from various practitioners at the Court.

“With this on-site internship, students can once again interact with staff members. Students from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Bakrie University, and 10 other universities who from multiple disciplines—not only law but also library science, politics, communication—can gain a lot of knowledge and experience at the Court,” he explained.

Observing the large number of internship applications for the first internship program in February 2023, Hakim said students, not only of the law faculty, showed enthusiasm to intern at the Court, which means that it remains an attractive place to intern at.

“Therefore, hopefully 38 internship participants can maximize the opportunity to participate in all the activities in the internship program, which will feature competent mentors,” Hakim explained.

On the first day, the interns were introduced to the Court’s Registrar’s Office and the Secretariat-General by visiting the Constitution History Center, several offices of the Court employees. They were also briefed by an expert assistant to the constitutional justices. All interns will be participating in the program for the next four weeks.
