JAKARTA, (MKRI) – The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI), acting as the Permanent Secretariat of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC), participated in the Meeting of Secretaries General (MSG) held virtually on Thursday (06/25/2026). The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan, serving as the AACC Presidency Secretariat, presented the concept and proposed agenda for the 7th AACC Congress, which will be held in October 2026 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
The MKRI delegation was led by Secretary General Heru Setiawan and accompanied by Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Pan Mohamad Faiz and Head of the AACC Permanent Secretariat and International Affairs Immanuel Hutasoit. MKRI expressed its highest appreciation to the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan for all efforts undertaken in preparing the series of events for the 7th AACC Congress in Samarkand, including the comprehensive and substantive draft Congress program.
“As the AACC Permanent Secretariat, we have recorded all input from member institutions and will coordinate with the AACC President to make the necessary adjustments,” said Heru.
With four months remaining for preparation, MKRI expressed confidence that the implementation of the 7th AACC Congress would proceed successfully. MKRI also reaffirmed its readiness to support institutional strengthening within AACC, including administrative correspondence, invitations, discussion content, and any additional support required.
The MSG was essentially intended to prepare decision-making for the Board of Members Meeting (BoMM) as part of the series of events for the 7th AACC Congress by gathering input from AACC members. Regarding the draft Samarkand Declaration, MKRI observed that several AACC members are currently undergoing periods of transition and facing significant challenges in maintaining their constitutional order.
Therefore, as an expression of solidarity, MKRI will submit a written proposal for the Samarkand Declaration to include an appeal emphasizing continued respect for constitutional supremacy and judicial independence. MKRI believes that such a joint declaration would serve as a clear indication that AACC remains firmly grounded in the values of constitutionalism.
The MSG was attended by representatives of constitutional courts from 18 countries, namely Azerbaijan, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Palestine, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Thailand, Türkiye, the Philippines, and Uzbekistan. (*)
