JAKARTA (MKRI) — “Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar. La ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar. Allahu akbar walillahil hamd.”
The echoes of takbir once again resonated throughout the Constitutional Court (MK) compound. Constitutional justices and a number of employees celebrating Eid al-Adha 1447 H performed the Eid prayer in congregation at the Hall of the Building I of the Court on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, led by Ustadz Deden Misbahudin Muayyad.
Following the prayer, Ustadz Deden delivered a sermon titled “Qurban as a Manifestation of Social Integrity.” He reminded the congregation that the qurban ritual is one of the highly recommended acts of worship in Islam.
This is explicitly stated in Surah Al-Kawthar verse 2 of the Quran, which means “Therefore pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him].”
“Thus, on this day of Eid al-Adha and during the following three days, God willing, we will perform the qurban ritual as commanded by Allah in the verse above. Eid al-Adha is a noble momentum to strengthen piety while reinforcing social integrity within society,” Ustadz Deden said.
He explained that qurban is not merely the slaughtering of animals but also a symbol of sacrifice, honesty, compassion, social responsibility, and justice. Allah SWT states in Surah Al-Hajj verse 37: “Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you.”
The verse emphasizes that the essence of qurban lies not in ritual formality, but in moral quality and sincerity of heart. Islam, whose rituals are aligned with reason, teaches that neither the meat nor the blood of sacrificial animals benefits Allah; rather, what reaches Him is the piety of His servants.
Ustadz Deden stressed that social integrity is the harmony between faith, speech, and actions in social life. A person who possesses social integrity is not only virtuous personally but also brings benefits, justice, and a sense of security to the surrounding community.
As Imam Al-Ghazali stated in Ihya Ulumuddin, the essence of religion is not merely ritual worship but also the purification of character and fulfillment of social responsibilities. Al-Ghazali emphasized that the best people are those who uphold trust, avoid wrongdoing, help others, and contribute benefits to society.
According to Imam Al-Ghazali, social decay begins with the corruption of the heart and the loss of trustworthiness. Therefore, social integrity means consistency between faith and social conduct. A pious person is not only diligent in worship but must also be honest, fair, and trustworthy in social interactions.
In this context, qurban teaches three major values: sincerity, unity and solidarity, and justice. Today, society is in need of strong social integrity. Many crises occur not because of a lack of knowledge or wealth, but because of the erosion of honesty, trustworthiness, and concern for others.
“Corruption, injustice, manipulation, and disintegration are signs of weakened social integrity. Therefore, Eid al-Adha should serve as a momentum for self-improvement and for building a society with stronger integrity,” Ustadz Deden stated.
The series of events continued with the slaughtering of sacrificial animals. Chief Justice Suhartoyo symbolically handed over the sacrificial animals to the committee, accompanied by Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra and the other seven constitutional justices.
Chief Justice Suhartoyo stated that this year marked the second consecutive year that Court had organized both the Eid prayer and the slaughtering of sacrificial animals at the Court’s premises in Jakarta and at the Constitutional Court Employees Housing Complex in Bekasi, West Java. According to him, qurban brings blessings and serves as a manifestation of one’s piety.
“Because earlier I heard the ustadz explain that when we are questioned by the angels, there will be no close relatives around us; only these animals will be able to answer those questions,” . Chief Justice Suhartoyo remarked.
He expressed hope that Eid al-Adha would become a momentum for employees to strengthen their devotion to Allah SWT. He also extended his appreciation to all employees who contributed as members of the organizing committee.
