JAKARTA, MKRI – A visit to the Court serves as an effective means of gaining a deeper understanding of constitutional rights, as experienced by a group of students from the Faculty of Law of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. During their visit on Tuesday (May 12, 2026), the students were received by Legal Analyst Arinta Sulistiyo Eko Prabowo, who served as the resource person.

In his presentation, Arinta explained the fundamental concept of a constitution as the supreme law of the land and the basis for the administration of government. He also outlined the background of the Constitutional Court’s establishment, including the need for a constitutional review mechanism and the importance of resolving election result disputes through constitutional processes.

The students were further introduced to the Court’s constitutional authorities, including the judicial review of laws against the 1945 Constitution, the adjudication of disputes concerning the powers of state institutions, the dissolution of political parties, the settlement of election result disputes, and the obligation to render decisions on the House of Representatives’ opinions regarding the impeachment of the President. Arinta also discussed the types of cases that have never been handled by the Constitutional Court since its establishment.

“The first type of case that has never been handled by the Constitutional Court is the dissolution of a political party, and the second is deciding an impeachment case or a case involving serious legal violations formally submitted by the House of Representatives against the President or Vice President,” Arinta explained during his presentation to the students of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta.

The discussion session proceeded interactively, with the speaker actively engaging the students throughout the presentation. The participants enthusiastically raised various questions concerning constitutional practice, citizens’ constitutional rights, and several significant Constitutional Court decisions that have become landmark rulings in the development of Indonesian law.

Following the discussion session, the students continued their visit with a tour of the Constitutional History Center, where they learned about the historical development of Indonesia’s constitution and constitutional system.

“Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful. Every year we send students to participate in this program. Coincidentally, we offer a Constitutional Court litigation practice course taught by a legal practitioner. The students are delighted to visit the Constitutional Court and see the institution firsthand. This activity is highly beneficial,” said Ahdiana, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta.

Through this visit, the students of FH UMY are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the role and authority of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia in safeguarding the Constitution and democracy. The program is also expected to foster greater constitutional awareness, particularly among the younger generation.
