JAKARTA (MKRI) – Participants of the Prosecutor Formation Education and Training Program Batch LXXXIII Batch I of 2026 from the Attorney General’s Office visited the Constitutional Court building on Wednesday (May 6, 2026). The activity aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the role and functions of the Constitutional Court (the Court) within Indonesia’s constitutional system.

During the visit, participants gained deeper insight through a presentation delivered by Legal Analyst Rio Tri Juli Putranto. He explained in a detailed and systematic manner the Court’s institutional background, starting from the historical context of its establishment to its authorities within the constitutional system. He noted that the establishment of the Court is closely linked to the need for a mechanism to review laws against the 1945 Constitution, ensuring that all legislation remains in line with the Constitution as the supreme law of the land.

“The Court has four main authorities, first, to review laws against the 1945 Constitution; second, to adjudicate disputes over the authority of state institutions whose powers are granted by the Constitution; third, to decide on the dissolution of political parties; and fourth, to adjudicate disputes over general election results. In addition, the Court has one obligation, namely to render decisions on alleged violations committed by the President and/or Vice President,” Rio explained.

During the session, participants were also introduced to the legal basis of the Court as stipulated in Article 24C of the 1945 Constitution, the Law on Judicial Power, and the Law on the Constitutional Court. Furthermore, the speaker explained the composition of the Constitutional Justices, which consists of nominees from three institutions: the President, the House of Representatives (DPR), and the Supreme Court.

Following the discussion session, participants continued the program by visiting the Constitutional History Center to learn about the development of Indonesia’s constitutional history and the evolution of constitutional adjudication over time. Through this visit, participants are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the importance of the Constitution as the highest legal foundation, as well as the strategic role of the Court in upholding the rule of law in Indonesia.
