JAKARTA (MKRI) — Students of BINUS Serpong High School paid an academic visit to the Constitutional Court on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The event featured Senior Legal Analyst Syamsudin Noer, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the role and functions of the Court within Indonesia’s legal system.
In his presentation, Syamsudin explained that the Constitutional Court is one of the institutions exercising judicial power in Indonesia and is vested with significant constitutional authority. These include reviewing laws against the 1945 Constitution, resolving disputes over the authority of state institutions, ruling on the dissolution of political parties, and adjudicating disputes over general election results. He also emphasized that the Court’s decisions are final and binding, making the Court instrumental in safeguarding constitutional supremacy.
Students also gained an understanding of the legal basis for the establishment of the Constitutional Court, its institutional structure, and its judicial process, from the filing of petitions to the pronouncement of decisions. They were further introduced to the principles governing the Court’s proceedings, including open hearings, judicial independence, and the administration of justice that is simple and expeditious.
The event was highly interactive, featuring a question-and-answer session between the students and the speaker. The students enthusiastically raised a wide range of questions, from the judicial review process to the qualifications required to become a constitutional justice.
“We are truly grateful for the warm welcome extended by the Constitutional Court. This visit has been extremely beneficial because it aligns closely with our Civics curriculum, particularly our discussions on the role and functions of the Constitutional Court within Indonesia’s constitutional system,” said Silva, a teacher at BINUS Serpong High School, when asked about her impressions of visiting the Court.
To conclude the visit, the students toured the Constitutional History Center, where they learned about the development of Indonesia’s constitutional history through various exhibits and archival materials on display.
