JAKARTA (MKRI) – A total of 48 students from the Faculty of Law, Widya Karya Catholic University, Malang, conducted an academic visit to the Constitutional Court on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The activity formed part of an out-of-class learning program aimed at providing students with a practical understanding of the role and functions of constitutional law.
The students were received by Senior Legal Counselor Ina Zuchriyah, who explained the background of the Court's establishment. She stated that the establishment of the Court was inseparable from the need for a mechanism to review laws against the 1945 Constitution, as well as to address various constitutional issues in the past.
In addition to institutional aspects, the students were also introduced to the procedural mechanisms of the Court's proceedings, ranging from the submission of petitions and the preliminary examination to the pronouncement of decisions. The explanation provided a comprehensive overview of the systematic and transparent constitutional adjudication process. Ina also emphasized that access to justice at the Court is open to all parties, including students. “Not only advocates or legal counsels can file cases at the Court, but students may also submit petitions free of charge,” she said.
Ina also encouraged the students to pursue careers in the legal field, including the possibility of becoming Constitutional Justices. “There are three nominating institutions for Constitutional Justices. Nothing is impossible as long as you maintain the spirit of learning. If others can do it, so can you,” she added.
The session became interactive as students raised critical questions on constitutional issues, which the speaker answered comprehensively. As part of the visit, the students also toured the Constitutional History Center, where they learned about the development of Indonesia’s constitution through archives and interactive media. The visit enriched their understanding of constitutional law and reaffirmed the Court's important role in upholding constitutional supremacy in Indonesia.
