JAKARTA (MKRI) – Students from Al-Izhar Pondok Labu Islamic Middle School, Jakarta, visited the Constitutional Court (MK) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. This activity was an out-of-class learning experience that provided students with hands-on experience in understanding the Court's role and function.
The visit was received by the Court’s Legal Counselor, Ganggas Wibisono, who also gave a presentation on the Constitution and the role and authority of the Constitutional Court. During the presentation, Ganggas explained that the constitution is the primary foundation of the state system, governing the relationship between the state and its citizens and serving as the source of all legal sources. He also outlined the importance of constitutionalism as an effort to limit state power to protect the rights of the people.
"The constitution is the highest legal basis in a country, not just in Indonesia, but in every country in the world. Every country has its own constitution. The constitution determines the philosophy and goals of the state, and it is also the legal basis of a country," Ganggas said while delivering the material.
Furthermore, the students were introduced to the history of the Constitutional Court's formation, including the concept of judicial review, which is one of the Court's main authorities for testing laws against the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (UUD NRI). In addition, various other authorities of the Court were also explained, such as resolving disputes over the authority of state institutions, deciding on the dissolution of political parties, and handling disputes over election results.
The event was interactive. Students demonstrated high enthusiasm by actively answering the speakers' questions. Several students even provided critical responses regarding the Court's role as the guardian of the Constitution and protector of citizens' constitutional rights.
This activity not only provided a presentation session but also provided hands-on experience for the students. Following the presentation, all students were invited to visit the Court’s Constitutional History Center. They observed the historical journey of the Indonesian constitution, from its formulation to the development of the current state system.
"I would like to express my gratitude for this opportunity, which I think is quite rare for us to have as one of the schools that has the opportunity to visit the Constitutional Court. This is also a learning experience for our students who are studying regulations, state administration, legal laws, and understanding more deeply the role of the Court," said Dinda, a teacher at Al-Izhar Pondok Labu Islamic Middle School, when asked about her testimonial of the visit.
This visit is expected to enhance students' understanding of the importance of the constitution and foster legal awareness from an early age. Furthermore, this activity will serve as a fun and inspiring learning opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the Constitutional Court and its role in the Indonesian constitutional system.
