JAKARTA (MKRI) — Students from Pembangunan Jaya Plus High School (SMA Plus Pembangunan Jaya) visited the Court on Thursday, April 16, 2026, as part of an academic program to gain a deeper understanding of the Court’s roles, functions, and authorities within Indonesia’s constitutional system.

Siswantana Putri Rachmatika, as the resource person, explained that the Court was established in response to various constitutional issues in the past, including the absence of a mechanism to review laws against the 1945 Constitution, the potential for disputes between state institutions, and the lack of a clear forum to resolve election disputes. The Court plays a crucial role in upholding the Constitution and safeguarding citizens’ constitutional rights.

The students also received an overview of the Court’s authorities, including reviewing laws against the Constitution, adjudicating disputes over the authority of state institutions, deciding on the dissolution of political parties, and resolving disputes over general election results. In addition, the Court is mandated to rule on the opinion of the House of Representatives (DPR) regarding alleged violations by the President and/or Vice President.

“The Constitutional Court has six roles and functions: as the guardian of the Constitution, the final interpreter of the Constitution, the guardian of democracy, the protector of citizens’ constitutional rights, the protector of human rights, and the protector of state ideology,” Siswantana explained during the session.

In addition to attending the presentation, the students also visited the Constitutional History Center (Puskon), where they learned about the development of Indonesia’s constitution, from its formulation to the current constitutional system. This activity provided a more comprehensive and contextual learning experience.

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to visit the Court. This has been an engaging and beneficial experience for our students, particularly those in the 10th and 11th grades. This activity not only serves as a visit but also supports classroom learning, including Pancasila Education,” said Mutiara Pratiwi, a teacher at SMA Plus Pembangunan Jaya.

This visit is expected to enhance students’ understanding of the Constitution and raise awareness of the importance of law in national life. It is hoped that the younger generation will become critical and legally aware citizens who contribute to strengthening democracy in Indonesia.
