JAKARTA (MKRI) – Thinkleaders.id participants conducted an academic visit to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) on Thursday, February 12, 2026. This activity was conducted to increase public understanding, particularly among the younger generation, of Indonesia's constitutional justice system.

The activity featured Rio Tri Juli Putranto as the main speaker, who comprehensively examined the role, function, and authority of the Constitutional Court (MK) in the life of the Indonesian state.

The interactive discussion was also moderated by Rita, a Senior Legal Counselor. In his presentation, Rio Tri Juli Putranto explained that the establishment of the Constitutional Court was motivated by the need for a constitutional review mechanism for laws deemed to conflict with the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, the Court was established to provide a clear and objective forum for resolving disputes over general election results and to prevent the impeachment of the President and/or Vice President on the basis of political considerations alone.

"The legal basis for the Constitutional Court is found in Article 24C of the 1945 Constitution, Law No. 48 of 2009 on Judicial Power, and Law No. 24 of 2003 on the Constitutional Court," Rio explained in his presentation.

In addition to the theoretical presentation, the speaker also explained the composition of the nine Constitutional Justices, who are appointed by the President, the Supreme Court, and the House of Representatives. Participants were also introduced to the principles of constitutional justice, such as finality and bindingness, and erga omnes, which affirms that the Constitutional Court's decisions are binding on all citizens. As a concrete example, Rio presented data on the handling of disputes in the 2024 Regional Head Elections, noting that 310 cases were submitted to the Court and 40 were granted.

"We, from the THINKLEADERS.ID, are certainly very grateful, as this is actually our second visit. Moreover, the Constitutional Court has provided everything we needed. During our discussions, we thankfully gained several new insights regarding judicial review, which is a very strategic issue for us, the younger generation, especially those exploring the legal world," explained Yassar, Chair of THINKLEADERS.ID, when asked about his impressions of the academic activity at the Constitutional Court Building.

Following the presentation and Q&A session, the event continued with a live observation session. Participants of Thinkleader.id were invited to watch the proceedings at the Constitutional Court. Through this session, participants gained practical experience by observing firsthand the trial process and how the Court's final and binding decisions are produced in constitutional court practice.
