JAKARTA (MKRI) — Adies Kadir took the oath of office as a Constitutional Justice before President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2026. He succeeds Arief Hidayat, who has entered retirement after serving as a Constitutional Justice for 13 years since April 2013.
“In the name of God, I swear that I will discharge my duties as a Constitutional Justice to the best of my ability and with utmost fairness, uphold the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, implement all statutory laws and regulations in strict accordance with the 1945 Constitution, and devote myself to the nation and the people,” Adies declared while wearing the Constitutional Justice’s robe.
In accordance with prevailing regulations, a Constitutional Justice must take the oath before the President prior to assuming office. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 9P of 2026 on the Dismissal and Appointment of Constitutional Justices Proposed by the House of Representatives, dated February 2, 2026.
Adies was nominated as a Constitutional Justice by the House of Representatives (DPR). His designation as a candidate was approved during a DPR plenary session on January 27, 2026. Born in Balikpapan on October 17, 1968, Adies previously served as Deputy Speaker of the DPR of the Republic of Indonesia.
He has been a member of the DPR since 2014, nominated by the Golkar Party (Party of Functional Groups). In a press conference broadcast on the official YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Adies affirmed that, in his capacity as a Constitutional Justice, he would refrain from adjudicating petitions related to Golkar.
“At the Constitutional Court, there are clear rules. If there is a perceived conflict of interest, a justice will automatically recuse themselves from the panel or the bench. I will likely take the same course of action should there be cases concerning the Golkar Party,” he stated.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, Adies proceeded directly to the Constitutional Court building. He later met with fellow constitutional justices in the Delegation Room on the fourth floor of Building I of the Court.
