JAKARTA, (MKRI) – To enhance synergy between state institutions, the Constitutional Court (MK) held an audience with the Regional Representative Council (DPD) on Tuesday (11/4/2025) at the DPD Secretariat General Building, Jakarta. The meeting discussed plans for institutional collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Cooperation Agreement (PKS).

The MK delegation was led by Secretary-General Heru Setiawan, accompanied by Andi Hakim, Head of the Domestic Cooperation and Public Relations Division, and Fitri Yuliana, Head of the Subdivision for Domestic and Interinstitutional Cooperation. The DPD was represented by Secretary-General Mohammad Iqbal, along with Andi Irham, Head of the Policy and Legal Drafting Center, and Fitriani, Head of the Membership Organization and Human Resources Bureau.

Heru explained that the meeting followed up on recommendations from the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), which encouraged MK to strengthen interinstitutional cooperation regarding the submission and receipt of copies of petitions, petition revisions, and decisions of the Constitutional Court.

He further noted that in constitutional review cases, especially those concerning regional governance, local governments have yet to be adequately represented. The involvement of DPD in judicial review hearings would help ensure that regional perspectives are better reflected.

“So, when there is a judicial review of a law related to regional governance, if DPD has a channel to participate, it can safeguard regional interests through judicial review,” Heru said.

Responding to this, DPD Secretary-General Mohammad Iqbal welcomed the initiative, describing it as a breakthrough that would strengthen DPD’s institutional role and ensure that regional voices are represented in MK proceedings.

“We will review the proposed cooperation framework,” Iqbal affirmed.
