JAKARTA (MKRI) – In order to strengthen bilateral relations, delegation from the Constitutional Court of Algeria visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Constitutional Justice Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh and Constitutional Justice Arsul Sani in the Delegation Room, 14th Floor, Building I of the Constitutional Court.
Algerian Constitutional Justice Ahmed Bennini, during the welcoming remarks, recalled that the close ties between Indonesia and Algeria date back to 1955, when Algeria received an invitation from the Indonesian government to participate in the Asian-African Conference in Bandung. Since then, Indonesia’s presence has held great significance for the Algerian people’s struggle, culminating in Algeria’s establishment as a sovereign nation in 1966.
“Our presence here today, after observing the long-standing good relations between our countries, is to further strengthen this historical bond. We hope the Indonesian Constitutional Court can share insights into how it carries out its functions, and we look forward to a more intensive partnership between our institutions in the future. Considering that the Indonesian Constitutional Court currently chairs the association of constitutional courts and similar institutions in the Asian region, we hope this visit will serve as a meaningful step in strengthening our bilateral cooperation,” said Justice Bennini, who was accompanied by Algerian Constitutional Justice Bouziane Aliane, Director of Information Systems and Communication Technology Hicham Hamouta, and International Relations Officer Asma Belilita.
Constitutional Justice Arsul Sani expressed his delight on the visit of the Algerian delegation. “We are very pleased that the Algerian Constitutional Court is visiting us and several other institutions in Indonesia. This reminds me of our visit to Algeria a year ago, where we had the opportunity to visit an administrative court there, as well as several impressive agricultural cities,” said Justice Arsul at the beginning of the meeting.
Justice Arsul went on to note that the historical bond between Indonesia and Algeria could also be seen during his visit to the Algerian People’s Struggle Museum, where he found evidence of the countries’ long-standing ties, including the Soekarno Corner within the museum.
“Algeria is quite well known in Indonesia. Previously, the Chief Justice of Algeria’s Constitutional Court met Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat to express her wish for more intensive cooperation with our Court. As we mark the 22nd anniversary of the Indonesian Constitutional Court, we continue to learn from our counterparts around the world. Therefore, we warmly welcome this collaboration and look forward to sharing knowledge and best practices on how constitutional courts perform their functions. In addition, we hope Algeria can support and encourage the revival of the Joint Conference between the AACC and CCJA, as a way to strengthen Asia-Africa relations in the future,” explained Constitutional Justice Arsul.
Following the bilateral meeting, the Algerian delegation attended a plenary hearing on the judicial review of Cases No. 164/PUU-XXIII/2025 and No. 139/PUU-XXIII/2025, both concerning the judicial review of Law No. 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. The hearings included the President’s (Government’s) statement in Case No. 164/PUU-XXIII/2025 and a statement from the Ministry of Manpower.
