TÜRKIYE, MKRI – The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (MKRI) participated in the 13th AACC-CTHRD Summer School hosted by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Türkiye from 5-9 October 2025 in Ankara. This annual event, themed “Family Life in the Constitutional Perspective and the Right to Respect for Family Life,” brought together representatives from member institutions of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC).
The event opened with remarks from President of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye Kadir Özkaya, who emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of constitutional judiciaries in protecting family rights as part of human rights. “The family is the foundation of society, and it is our shared duty to ensure its protection within the framework of the constitution and the law,” stated President of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye Kadir Özkaya.
Secretary General of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye Murat Azaklı stated that the 13th Summer School was attended by 66 participants, making it the largest in the program’s history. The Constitutional Court of Indonesia was represented by Constitutional Registrar Expert Yunita Rhamadani and Translator Expert Yuanna Sisilia. Both actively engaged in a series of presentations and discussions focusing on constitutional approaches to the protection of family life and the respect for family rights in various countries.
In their presentation titled “Family Rights under the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia: A Look through Constitutional Court Decisions,” the Indonesian delegation highlighted several landmark rulings of the Constitutional Court concerning family rights, including those related to polygamy restrictions, the legal status of children born out of wedlock, the minimum age of marriage, child custody after divorce, and interfaith marriages. Through these rulings, the Court seeks to balance citizens’ constitutional rights, religious diversity, and legal certainty.
Throughout the five-day event, participants took part in academic sessions, shared experiences across jurisdictions, and joined cultural activities that strengthened relations among constitutional courts across Asia.
The Summer School is an annual program coordinated by the AACC Center for Training and Human Resources Development (CTHRD), currently chaired by the Constitutional Court of Türkiye. Through this initiative, the AACC continues to enhance cooperation, broaden perspectives, and strengthen human resource capacities within constitutional judiciaries. (*)
