JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Student Legislative Body of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Airlangga University (BLM FEB UNAIR), visited the Constitutional Court (MK) on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The group of 52 students was welcomed by the Court’s Legal Educator, Achmad Junaedi, in the Auditorium of Building II. To open the session, Junaedi posed a simple question to the students.

“Why does the Court building have nine pillars? And why is it that, unlike other government buildings in the area, the Court has no fences?” he asked.

The question immediately sparked the students’ enthusiasm. They began engaging in discussion and attempted to provide general answers. Building on their responses, Junaedi explained the historical background of the Court’s establishment. He noted that in the past, many problematic laws existed without any mechanism for judicial review. Indonesia had also once witnessed the impeachment of a president on political grounds. Such circumstances necessitated the establishment of a judicial body, the Constitutional Court, to adjudicate such matters.

Junaedi went on to mention that the Constitution guarantees 66 citizens’ constitutional rights. The Court, he stressed, is mandated to safeguard those rights to ensure the sustainability of democratic nationhood and statehood. As part of that guarantee, every citizen may petition the Court for a judicial review of laws they deem detrimental. Such petitions may challenge either the formal or material aspects of a law.

During the visit, the students were also given a tour of the Court facilities, from the library and the Constitutional History Center to the Court’s courtroom.

For context, the Student Legislative Body of the Faculty of Economics and Business (BLM FEB), Airlangga University, is a student organization that functions as a legislative, supervisory, and advocacy body for FEB students’ aspirations. It performs legislative tasks by drafting regulations and monitoring the Student Executive Body’s performance, while also conducting advocacy on behalf of student interests. The organization further serves as a professional, trustworthy, and independent representative body to strengthen the effectiveness and relevance of student institutions.
