DENPASAR (MKRI) — The Faculty of Law of Mahasaraswati University (FH Unmas) Denpasar held a public lecture themed “The Constitutional Court in Indonesia’s State Structure” on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Ganesa Auditorium, 4th Floor of the Rectorate Building. Constitutional Justice Anwar Usman was featured as the keynote speaker, with I Wayan Wahyu Wira Udytama moderating the session.

The event drew approximately 100 participants, including members of the university’s rectorate, lecturers, academic staff, as well as undergraduate and graduate students of law. Also in attendance were Rector of Unmas Denpasar I Made Sukamerta and Dean of the Faculty of Law I Ketut Sukewati Lanang Putra Perbawa.

In his opening remarks, Rector I Made Sukamerta emphasized the importance of students gaining insights not only from academics but also directly from national figures. He expressed hope for sustained collaboration between FH Unmas and the Constitutional Court in advancing the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

During his presentation, Justice Anwar Usman underscored that the establishment of the Constitutional Court reflects a fusion of democracy and nomocracy, governance based on the rule of law. The Court was instituted as a guardian of the Constitution, vested primarily with the authority to conduct judicial review of laws against the 1945 Constitution.

Justice Anwar went on to elaborate the Court’s authorities and functions within Indonesia’s constitutional system. He emphasized that the Constitutional Court plays a crucial role in maintaining checks and balances between the executive and legislative branches, thereby ensuring a healthy equilibrium within the framework of state power.
