JAKARTA (MKRI) – The Constitutional Court (MK) welcomed undergraduate and postgraduate students from the IBLAM College of Law (STIH), on Monday, April 21, 2025. The visit was welcomed by the Legal Analyst of the Legal and Administrative Bureau of the Court, Muhammad Doni Ramdani in the Hall of Building 2 of the Court.
Doni invited students to discuss the authority of the Court. Accompanied by the Chairman of STIH IBLAM, Prof. Dr. Angkasa, S.H., M.Hum, the students listened carefully to the presentation related to the history of the development of the Court in the Indonesian constitutional system.
Before the Court was formed, Doni said, there were several problematic laws, but there was no constitutional review mechanism. In addition, there had also been an impeachment of the President for political reasons. Then, it was also not without frequent conflicts between state institutions or government institutions that were only resolved under the authority of the President. In addition, the absence of a clear forum for resolving election result disputes and the dissolution of political parties through the Supreme Court with a mechanism that was also not very clear.
So post-reformation, the Court was formed with its authority contained in Article 24C paragraph (1) and (2) of the 1945 Constitution; Law 48/2009 on Judicial Power; and Law 24/2003 as last amended by Law 7/2020 on the Constitutional Court. Then Doni invited the students to get to know the Court more closely starting from its role, function, vision and mission, organizational structure, to the requirements for legal academics to be able to become constitutional justices in the future.
In his presentation in front of the 51 students, Doni also explained the parties who have the right to file a petition for judicial review of the law and the main points of the constitutional rights of citizens. "Some cases that were granted by the Court actually came from petitions filed by students. This could be one way for students that their contribution is not only on the streets (demonstrations), but can also be to the Court in carrying out the struggle through judicial review of the law," explained Doni, encouraging the students in their role as part of Indonesian citizens who have the right to file a petition to the Court.
