JAKARTA (MKRI) — On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the Constitutional Court (MK) dismissed the petition during the ruling hearing on the 2024 West Manggarai regent election results dispute. This case was filed by regent-vice regent candidate pair 1 Christo Mario Y Pranda and Richardus Tata Sontan. Chief Justice Suhartoyo presided over the hearing in the plenary courtroom accompanied by the other eight constitutional justices.
“[The Court] adjudicated, rejects the exception on the authority, and grants the exception on the deadline for filing the petition. On the petition’s subject matter: declares the Petitioners’ petition in this case inadmissible,” said Chief Justice Suhartoyo.
In its legal considerations, delivered by Constitutional Justice Arsul Sani, the Court asserted that the Petitioner’s petition had passed the deadline for filing petitions as stipulated in Law No. 10 of 2016 (Regional Election Law) and Constitutional Court Regulation No. 3 of 2024. As such, the Court ruled the exception on passing the deadline for filing petition legally reasonable.

The Petitioners argued that the West Manggarai KPU (Elections Commission) as Respondent had behaved unprofessionally by allowing Edistasius, a former convict, to run in the election. Edistasius had never publicly announced himself as a prisoner through mass media registered in the Press Council since the initial registration stage.
Therefore, the Petitioners requested the Court to annul the West Manggarai KPU Decree No. 804 of 2024 concerning the certification of the 2024 West Manggarai Regency election results dated December 3, 2024, and requested the Court to order the Respondent to do a revote at all polling stations.
