Petition Vague, Bulukumba Regent's Election Dispute Inadmissible

JAKARTA MKRI - The Constitutional Court (MK) dismissed the petition of Candidate Pair Number 1 Jamaluddin M. Syamsir and Tomy Satria Yulianto in the dispute over the 2024 Bulukumba regent election results. Decision No.53/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025 was read out by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo in the ruling hearing on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

“In the main petition, the Petitioners’ petition for case no. 53/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025 declared inadmissible,” stated Chief Justice Suhartoyo, accompanied by eight constitutional justices in the Constitutional Courtroom, Jakarta.

Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat explained that the Petitioners did not fulfill the formal requirements of the petition. Particularly with regard to the reasons for the petition which are unclear or vague.

“With regard to these reasons, there is no doubt for the Court to declare that the petition is unclear or obscure,” stated Justice Arief.

Candidate Number 2 Andi Muchtar Ali Yusuf and Andi Edy Manaf (Andi Utta-Edy Manaf), who are incumbents, were accused of abusing authority during the 2024 Bulukumba regent election results. This was argued by Candidate Number 1 Jamaluddin M. Syamsir and Tomy Satria Yulianto, the Petitioners of the dispute over the 2024 Bulukumba regent election results with petition case no. 53/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025.

The Petitioners argued that the incumbent had carried out criminal election violations by leveraging the regional officials in their campaign. The alleged violations include the misappropriation of local government budget and facilities in the incumbent’s campaign activities. He added that structural officials in several government institutions of Bulukumba had been suspected of actively manipulating government resources such as office vehicles, officers, and other facilities to strengthen their position in the election.(*)
