Alfons-Yakobus Clarifies Withdrawal of Petition for Mamberamo Raya Election Dispute

JAKARTA (MKRI) – Mamberamo Raya regent-vice regent candidates 04 Alfons Sesa and Yakobus Britai (Petitioners) confirmed the withdrawal of the petition for Case No. 286/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025. This withdrawal had previously been filed by Alfons-Yacobus officially through a letter to the Constitutional Court (MK) on January 20, 2025.

This statement was conveyed by Pangeran as the Petitioners’ legal counsel in the examination hearing for the 2024 Mamberamo Raya regent election results dispute on Thursday, January 30, 2025. The hearing was presided over by Chief Justice Suhartoyo and Constitutional Justices Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh and M. Guntur Hamzah on panel 1 in one of the courtrooms.

"Regarding the withdrawal of the petition for Case No. 286/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025, we, as the 2024 Mamberamo Raya regent and vice regent candidates 04, Alfons Sesa and Yakobus Britai, hereby declare that we are withdrawing the petition," said Pangeran, confirming the withdrawal.

At the preliminary hearing on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the polling station working committee (KPPS) members of Mamberamo Hulu District allegedly voted the ballots in a way that emulates the noken* system, even though Mamberamo Raya Regency no longer employed the system as stated in General Elections Commission (KPU) Regulation No. 1774 of 2024. The Petitioners argued that the KPPS members had carried out the polling in a way that mirrored the noken system on November 27, 2024. As a result, the Mamberamo Hulu Voters Supervisory Committee (Panwaslih) issued a recommendation for a revote in TPS 1 of Papasena Hamlet.

Following this, the Respondent issued Statement Letter No. 235 of 2024, assigning a revote in several polling stations across Waropen Atas, Mamberamo Hulu, Rufaer, Mamberamo Tengah, and East Mamberamo Tengah Districts. While the revote was scheduled for December 6, it was only implemented on December 7, 2024. However, a similar incident occurred in TPS 1 of Papasena II Hamlet, Mamberamo Hulu District.

The Petitioners requested the Court to annul the Mamberamo Raya KPU Decree No. 250 of 2024 on the certification of the regent election results, to disqualify Candidate Pair 01 Robby Wilson Sumansara–Kevin Totow from the election, and to order the Respondent to conduct a revote in all polling stations in the regency
