JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held an examination hearing to hear the responses from the Respondent, Relevant Party, and Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body) and to validate evidence of the parties on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. This second hearing on the Sawahlunto mayoral election results dispute was presided over by Chief Justice Suhartoyo (panel chair) and Constitutional Justices Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh and M. Guntur Hamzah on panel 1.

At the preliminary hearing on Friday, January 10, 2025, Sawahlunto Mayor Candidate Pair 2 Deri Asta and Desni Seswinari (Petitioners) withdrew their petition for Case No. 50/PHPU.WAKO-XXIII/2025. Nevertheless, the Court gave the opportunity for the legal counsel to invite the Petitioners to confirm their revocation.

“At an earlier hearing, the Petitioners were represented by their legal counsel and requested the withdrawal of their petition. The Court gave an opportunity to present the Petitioners to confirm the withdrawal of their petition. It turned out that at today’s hearing, the legal counsel and the Petitioners are absent without clear notice. Thus, the Court views that this petition is no longer relevant. For that reason, the Respondent, the Relevant Party, and Bawaslu do not need to deliver their response and statements,” stated Chief Justice Suhartoyo.
