JAKARTA (MKRI) — Regent Candidate Pair 5 Benediktus Amoiye and Benedictus Tori Paliling (Petitioners) had wished to challenge the certification of vote count recapitulation issued by the Mappi Regency KPU (Elections Commission). However, at the preliminary hearing for Case No. 133/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025 in the Constitutional Court (MK) on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Benediktus Amoiye himself withdrew the petition.

“For the [case registered as] No. 133, we initially appointed [a legal counsel], but the person in question is still in Jayapura. Considering the deadline to register [a petition] to the Court was three days, we withdraw [the petition],” Amoiye explained the situation in the courtroom before Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra (panel chair) and Constitutional Justices Ridwan Mansyur and Arsul Sani on panel 2.

In the petition, the Petitioners argued that Candidate Pair 3 or their campaign team had committed money politics by offering and distributing money to voters. Besides, the pair had also allegedly involved apparatuses at all levels of government. The Petitioners claimed to have reported the instances to the Mappi Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body), but no follow-up actions were taken.

The Petitioners also alleged there had been minors who voted for Candidate Pair 3, which were prevalent in almost all districts in Mappi Regency.

Thus, in their original petitums, they had requested the Court to declare their vote acquisition to be 21,717 votes. Alternatively, they had requested the Court to order the Mappi KPU to declare them as the elected regent and vice regent.
