JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Padang mayor-vice mayor candidate pair 3 Hendri Septa and Hidayat filed a petition requesting the Court to annul the Padang City KPU (Elections Commission) Decree No. 1693 of 2024 on the certification of the Padang City 2024 mayor-vice mayor election results. Chief Justice Suhartoyo with the Constitutional Justices Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh and M. Guntur Hamzah presided over the preliminary hearing for case No. 212/PHPU.WAKO-XXIII/2025 on Friday, January 10, 2025.
At the hearing, the Petitioners’ legal counsel Bambang Widjojanto presented the vote results for the candidate pairs: 1. Fadly Amran-Maigus Nasir (176,648 votes); 2. M. Iqbal-Amasrul (54,685 votes); and 3. Hendri Septa and Hidayat/the Petitioners (88,859 votes).
The Petitioners suspected structured, systematic, and massive (TSM) election violations in several districts, including West Padang, East Padang, North Padang, Lubuk Begalung, Nanggalo, Kuranji, and Koto Tangah.
One of the massive violations allegedly committed by candidate pair 1 include the distribution of cooking oil, staple food items, and cash to voters during the campaign, election silence, and on election day on November 27, 2024. The said candidate pair also allegedly openly conducted a three-day workshop for 7,500 volunteers from August 13-15, 2024, aiming to secure victory in the 2024 mayoral election. At the event, said candidate pair targeted heads of neighborhood units (RT) and community units (RW) to become campaign team members. According to several testimonies, the candidate pair reportedly offered incentives, including payment for attendance and promised further rewards if they were able to influence 60 voters.
“In this Padang City election, starting from before the campaign period until after election, government officials including RT, RW, and/or village heads mobilized community to support candidate pair 1. This vote buying, facilitated by government officials, was justified by the Respondent (KPU) and ignored by the Padang City Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body),” added Bambang along with Hendri Septa (Petitioner) in the panel 1 courtroom.
For such violations, the Petitioners wish that the Court will order the Padang City KPU to do a revote of the 2024 mayor-vice mayor election by excluding candidate pair 1 Fadly Amran-Maigus Nasir, no later than four months after the Court’s decision.
