JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a preliminary hearing on the 2024 Parepare mayoral election results dispute for case No. 18/PHPU.WAKO-XXIII/2025. The mayoral-vice mayor candidate 4 Erna Rasyid Taufan-M Rahmat Sjamsu Alam serves as the Petitioners, requesting the Court to annul the Parepare City KPU (Elections Commission) Decree No. 460 of 2024 on the certification of the 2024 Parepare mayor-vice mayor election results dated December 2, 2024.
Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat chaired the hearing alongside Constitutional Justices Enny Nurbaningsih and Ridwan Mansyur in panel 3 courtroom. To note, the vote results stipulate that candidate pair 3 Tasming Hamid-Hermanto received the most votes (38,423) compared to the Petitioners (24,785).
The Petitioners’ legal counsel Hasnan Hasbi explained the Petitioners had decided to withdraw the case. “In our petition, we have explained [our role as legal counsel] and in the power of attorney, too, that we are authorized to withdraw the petition,” stated Hasnan on Friday evening, January 10, 2024.
In this case, the Petitioners challenged Tasming Hamid’s junior and senior high school diplomas for the registration of the Parepare mayor-vice mayor candidacy, citing his education background which indicates that he had enrolled in SMA (senior high school) Mahaputra Tello in 2003 and graduated in 2005.
However, Tasming’s SMP (junior high school) diploma indicates that he graduated in 2000, while he started high school in 2003. The Petitioners suspect that Tasming, who received 38,423 votes in the mayoral election, underwent high school education for five years.
The Petitioners also referred to the website of the higher education database (PDDikti) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology that Tasming started his undergraduate education in 2009 at the Makassar Institute of Economic Sciences, which contradicts his education background, which states 2007 as the enrollment year.
To note, four candidates participated in the Parepare mayoral election. The Parepare KPU has issued a decree certifying the vote results: candidate pair 1 Andi Nurhaldin Halid-Taqyuddin with 16,009 votes, candidate pair 2 Muhammad Zaini-Prof Bakhtiar with 9,886 votes, candidate pair 3 Tasming Hamid-Hermanto with 38,423 votes, and candidate pair 4 Erna Rasyid-Rahmat Sjamsu Alam with 24,785 votes.
