JAKARTA (MKRI) – Candidate Pair 02 Gunawan-Usman withdraw their petition concerning the 2024 Malang Regency election results dispute. It was confirmed by Dwi Indro Dito Cahyono, the legal counsel at the preliminary hearing on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The preliminary hearing is presided over by Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra and Constitutional Justice Ridwan Mansyur and Arsul Sani at the Panel 2 courtroom.

“In this hearing we would like to convey the withdrawal of our petition and we present our legal counsel in this hearing," said Cahyono.

Previously, Gunawan-Usman filed the petition to the Court on Saturday, December 7, 2024 and it was registered for Case No. 138/PUPU.BUP-XXIII/2025.

The Petitioners argue that the candidacy of Sanusi (Relevant Party) as the 2024 Malang Regency Regent, despite receiving the most votes, is unconstitutional. This is because Sanusi is considered to have served two terms as regent: first, as the elected regent for the 2021-2025 period, and second, as the acting regent for the 2016-2021 period after initially serving as vice-regent. Sanusi replaced Regent Rendra Krisna, who was convicted of corruption in 2018 and sentenced to imprisonment. Therefore, the Petitioners requested his disqualification from the election.(*)
