MALANG (MKRI) — Constitutional Justice Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh talked at length about the Constitutional Court’s (MK) authority and procedural law at a training for professional advocates (PKPA) and public lecture organized by the Law Faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Malang (FH UMM) in collaboration with the Malang branch executive board (DPC) of the Association of Indonesian Advocates (Peradi) on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at FH UMM.
In the discussion guided by Moderator Eri Arif Mudji, Justice Daniel Yusmic explained five points systematically, starting from a description of the Position, Authority and Functions of the Court, General Aspects of Proceedings at the Court, Procedural Law for Judicial Review, SKLN Procedural Law and PHPU/Pilkada Procedural Law, as well as Procedural Law for the Dissolution of Political Parties and Procedural Law for Deciding on DPR Opinions.
Justice Daniel also explained the review of the Law Relating to Advocates. He said that until 2024 there have been 33 decisions related to judicial reviews of the Advocate Law.
Furthermore, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss which created an interactive atmosphere. At the end of the event, Justice Daniel emphasized that prospective advocates who understand procedural law at the Court in the future will be better able to provide effective support for their clients, as well as contribute to upholding the constitution in Indonesia.
"It is hoped that this public lecture will provide significant benefits for law students and prospective lawyers who want to deepen their knowledge of the constitution," said Justice Daniel.
This event was attended by the Dean of FH UMM, Tongat, Acting Chairman of DPC Peradi Malang Raya, Naili Aiyani, and FH UMM students who were participants in PKPA and the Center of Excellence (CoE). Tongat in his opening speech said the importance of a deep understanding of the Court's procedural law.
"For prospective advocates and law students, it is certainly a good opportunity to attend lectures directly from Constitutional Justices. "Of course, in the future, understanding the processes and procedures at the Court is the key to strengthening competence in legal practice," said Tongat.
After completing the series of events, Justice Daniel and his entourage were invited to FH UMM. There the group explored the virtual legal world or metaverse of the MK's moot courtroom as the first moot court metaverse in Indonesia.
Instilling Constitutional Values for Prospective Catholic Priests
The day before, Justice Daniel became a resource person in an event held by the San Giovanni Major Seminary in Malang. The seminar with the theme "Instilling Constitutional Values in Welcoming Youth Pledge Day for Prospective Catholic Priests" is aimed at prospective Catholic priests. This event took place on Friday (10/4/2024) and was attended by the Chancellor of the Interdiocesan College of San Giovanni XXIII, Father Gregorius Tri Wardoyo CM, Head of the Community of the Interdiocesan College of San Giovanni XXIII, Brother Hans Daga, the Fathers, Formaters and hundreds of Brother both collectively in person or online. This event aims to educate prospective priests about the importance of constitutional values in the context of church and community service.
Father Gregorius Tri Wardoyo CM in his speech said that this was the first time a state official had attended the community. Giovanni XXIII Malang Interdiocesan College Seminary has 10 dioceses, 109 Brothers, 9 Fathers, and high seminary Formatters. Father Tri Wardoyo emphasized that this visit was an important step for religious leaders to show support for the community without forgetting the interests of the nation.
"As religious leaders, we must continue to be committed to building brotherhood and togetherness, as well as safeguarding the interests of the nation. This seminar is the first step for us to become more sensitive to our self response and responsibility as servants of the people," he added.
This seminar was guided by Brother Yoga Febriano. Starting his material, Justice Daniel revealed that Day I of the II Youth Congress was held at the Katholieke Jonglingen Bond (KJB) Building, now part of the Jakarta Cathedral Church. This place has history because it produced to the Youth Pledge which binds all elements of the nation to be united and is a reminder for Catholic youth that they played a role long before the independence of the Republic of Indonesia in building national unity and integrity. Justice Daniel also explained the importance of understanding constitutional values in the spiritual and moral formation of prospective priests.
"As church leaders, prospective priests need to understand the basics of our country's constitution so they can contribute actively to people’s life," he stressed.
In the discussion session, Justice Daniel discussed the relevance of constitutional values and the protection of human rights, in line with Catholic teachings. The Brothers are very interactive and there are prospective priests who state that this understanding is very important in preparing themselves to face social and political challenges in society.
At the end of the seminar, Justice Daniel closed by saying that there was a need to integrate constitutional values in the educational curriculum for prospective priests, as well as the importance of the role of the church in supporting efforts to uphold human rights.
"With this event, it is hoped that prospective priests can understand better and apply constitutional values in their service, so that every prospective priest is able to realize and live up to their vocation," stressed Justice Daniel. (*)
