ASTANA (MKRI) — “Our choice of Pancasila is not wrong. Pancasila is the best legacy that the founding fathers have bequeathed to us,” said Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat when addressing the Indonesian diaspora in Astana, Kazakhstan on Sunday, June 16, 2024. On the Eid al-Adha of 1445 H, he explained the Constitutional Court’s duties and jurisdiction as well as its previous achievement of deciding over 299 cases on the 2024 election results dispute. He revealed that despite the overwhelmingly high number of cases and limited deadline, the constitutional justices and all of the Court’s staff had devoted energy, thoughts, and time in long hours for the last 3 months.

The Indonesian ambassador to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan Fadjroel Rahman also explained to the Indonesian diaspora attending the event that Indonesia has a good rapport with Kazakhstan and had just celebrated their 30-year diplomatic relations in 2023. One of the milestones of the relations was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority and the Astana administration to declare the IKN and Kazakhstan’s capital Astana as sister cities.

“In addition to overseeing such cooperation, the most important thing for us at the embassy is to protect Indonesian citizens from head to toe,” said Fadjroel before thirty Indonesian citizens attending the event. The gathering was held at Wisma Indonesia in Astana City, with a joint Eid prayer at Hazrat Sultan Mosque.

The visit by the Constitutional Court delegation in Astana was a follow-up on the MoU between the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia and the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan signed in 2023 as well as to prepare for the sixth congress of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC). Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat is scheduled to meet with the chief justice of the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan and deliver a public lecture on June 18.
