JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) declared inadmissible the petition filed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) DPR candidate Marsiaman Saragih. The verdict on the 2024 DPD (Regional Representatives Council) election results dispute of Riau Province for the electoral district of II Riau was delivered on Tuesday afternoon, May 21, 2024 in the plenary courtroom. The case was registered with No. 63-02-03-04/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024.

“[The Court] decided, to declare the Petitioner’s petition inadmissible,” said Chief Justice Suhartoyo alongside the other eight constitutional justices.

In the decree, Constitutional Justice Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh said that the Court had summoned the Petitioner legally and reasonably with a letter from the Court Registrar No. 74/Sid PenDPR- DPRD Pan MK/04/2024 dated April 24, 2024 regarding hearing summons. However, until the hearing in question was adjourned, the Petitioner was absent without any valid reason.

“The Courts believes there was no need to hold another session to hear the responses of the Respondent, Relevant party, Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body) and other matters submitted to the Court since they would be irrelevant. As such, those responses and the evidence were not considered any further, said Justice Foekh.
