KPU: Petition of Aceh V Legislative Candidate Lacks Recommendation from Golkar

JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) held a follow-up hearing for the DPRA (Aceh Legislative Council) election results dispute of electoral district (dapil) Aceh V, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. The case No. 23-02-04-01/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024 was filed by Jufri Sulaiman, a DPRA candidate Number 8 from the Party of Functional Groups (Golkar). This second hearing was held with to hear the response from the KPU (General Elections Commission) as Respondent, statement from Relevant Party, and the testimony of Bawaslu (Election Supervisory Board), presided over by Constitutional Justices Arief Hidayat (panel chair), Anwar Usman, and Enny Nurbaningsih.

The Respondent, represented by legal counsel Zamroni, said in the hearing that the petition did not meet the formal requirements. The Petitioner did not attach a letter of recommendation from the central executive board (DPP) of Golkar as a formal requirement in submitting a case to the Court.

"The Respondent requests the Court to grant the Respondent's exception in its entirety, deciding that the a quo petition cannot be accepted. The Respondent requests the Court to reject the Petitioner's petition completely, certifying that the stipulation of recapitulation results carried out by the Respondent No. 360 in 2024 are valid," said Zamroni.

Meanwhile, Bawaslu in its statement stated that it received a report from the Petitioner regarding the violations that occurred. However, Panwaslih (voters supervisory committeedid) not process the report because it was withdrawn by the Petitioner.
