JAKARTA (MKRI) — The Nusantara Awakening Party (PKN) has filed a petition over the 2024 general election results to the Constitutional Court (MK) for the election of DPRD (Regional Legislative Council) in the electoral districts of Papua Pegunungan 1, 2, and Pegunungan Bintang Regency 1 in Papua Pegunungan Province.

The Petitioner reported that it received 1,299 votes at Jaya Wijaya Regency’s preliminary meeting, a decrease from 6,116 votes. The Jaya Wijaya Regency Bawaslu (Elections Supervisory Body) has also advised the General Elections Commission (KPU) to correct the vote count recapitulation because the Petitioner should have received 4,600 votes. The Petitioner claimed this vote loss cost PKN one seat in Papua Pegunungan Representatives’ Council (DPRP) for electoral district 1.

PKN lost 4,001 votes in Gamelia District, Lanny Jaya Regency, from 5,054 to 1,059 votes. In contrast, vote inflation boosted the Democratic Party’s votes to 17,706 from 15,250 as well as Gerindra’s (Great Movement Party) votes from 3,249 to 5,250. The Petitioner claimed these vote inflation and reduction cost PKN a seat in the DPRP of Papua Pegunungan Provincial electoral district 2.

The expected 2,100 votes for PKN were also reduced to 1,332 votes. This vote loss led to PKN losing a seat in DPRD of Pegunungan Bintang Regency 1.

The Petitioner filed objections over the violations to the local Bawaslu. It argues that the vote count for PKN is still incorrect even though the election organizers have followed the suggestions made by the local Bawaslu.

“The recommendations have been given but the results are still insufficient, Your Honors,” said Fiili Latuamury, the Petitioner’s legal counsel, on Friday, May 5, 2024, in the preliminary courtroom. The case No. 203-01-09-37/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024 was heard by panel 1—Chief Justice Suhartoyo (panel chair) and Constitutional Justices Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh and M. Guntur Hamzah.

In the petitum, the Petitioner asks the Court to annul the General Elections Commission (KPU) Decree No. 360 of 2024 as it pertains to the Papua Pegunungan Provincial DPRD seats in the first and second electoral districts, as well as the electoral district of Pegunungan Bintang 1 for the election of Pegunungan Bintang Regency DPRD. It also requests the Court to confirm PKN’s vote counts for the Provincial DPRD in Papua Pegunungan electoral district 1 at 13,723 votes and electoral district 2 at 50,889 votes, as well as 2,100 votes for the Regency DPRD in the electoral district of Pegunungan Bintang 1.
