JAKARTA, (MKRI) — The United Indonesia Party (Perindo) has filed a petition over the 2024 election results to the Constitutional Court (MK). The disputed results affected the acquisition of seats for members of the DPR (House of Representatives), Papua Provincial DPRD or Papuan People’s Representatives Council (DPRP), Papuan Regency/City DPRD or Regency/City Legislative Council (DPRK) in the Jayawijaya 4 electoral district of the Papua Pegunungan Province.
“There was a shift in the Petitioner’s votes to DPR candidate from the Nusantara Awakening Party (PKN) Agus Hikman, as many as 4,736 votes,” said the Petitioner’s legal counsel La Ode Muhammad Rusliadi in the plenary courtroom on Friday, May 3, 2024. The case No. 185-02-16-37/PHPU.DPR-DPRD-XXII/2024 was heard on Panel 1 presided over by Chief Justice Suhartoyo and Constitutional Justices Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh and M. Guntur Hamzah.
According to the Petitioner, its vote tally should be 5,040 votes, while according to the Respondent (KPU), it was 1,104 votes. This loss of votes was due to the replacement of the old district election committees (PPD) in the Jayawijaya 4 electoral district, including in Popugoba District, which resulted in negligence/errors in vote counting by the PPD at the district level.
Apart from that, the Petitioner also argues that 3,936 votes were lost for Perindo legislative member Iwan Asso due to PPD errors/negligence at the district level.
“From the results determined by the Respondent through the Popugoba District PPD, the Petitioner’s votes were not certified properly, so the determination by the Respondent at the regency/city level for the Jayawijaya 4 electoral district is very detrimental to the Petitioner. Voting in this district was problematic due to the change between the old PPD and the new PPD. In the election of legislative candidates for the Jayawijaya 4 Regency/City DPRD in Papua Pegunungan in the 2024 election at the district PPD level, Popugoba used the noken system,” explained La Ode.
So, in its petitum, the Petitioner asks the Constitutional Court to annul General Election Commission (KPU) Decree No. 360 of 2024 as it pertains to the Jayawijaya 4 electoral district in Popugoba District; to certify the correct vote results for the Petitioner for the Jayawijaya Regency/City DPRD election in Jayawijaya 4 for Perindo candidate Iwan Asso at 5,040 votes.
