JAKARTA (MKRI) — Chief Justice Suhartoyo inaugurated the Constitutional Court’s (MK) Miftahul Khair mosque, located in the third floor of the Court’s third building, on Friday afternoon, April 5, 2024. Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra, Constitutional Justice Arief Hidayat, Constitutional Justice Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh, Constitutional Justice M. Guntur Hamzah, Constitutional Justice Ridwan Mansyur, Constitutional Justice Asrul Sani, Secretary-General Heru Setiawan, Chief Registrar Muhidin, and the Court’s officials and staff members were in attendance.
At the inauguration of the mosque and the iftar event, the chief justice said that Ramadan is an auspicious month and often dubbed the month of worship. “As a form of gratitude and in strengthening the relations between members of the Constitutional Court, an iftar event is held to strengthen our togetherness,” he said.
He also said that amid the busy schedule of exercising the constitutional mandate of the resolution of the 2024 simultaneous general election results disputes (PHPU), the Court is continuously trying to provide facilities to support case resolution for all of its stakeholders. The Court had not had a mosque of its own until today.
“Thanks to the support of all stakeholders, the Court finally has [a mosque] to be used by everyone, especially staff members,” he added.
He hoped the mosque would bring benefits to all stakeholders. “I also hope that the iftar event will strengthen our camaraderie,” he concluded.
Ongoing Charity and Sin
Prior to iftar, Constitutional Justice Asrul Sani conveyed a seven-minute sermon (kultum) in which he talked about ongoing charity. He said someone’s good deed that is followed by others will give the first person an ongoing reward. Conversely, a bad deed followed by others will be an ongoing sin.
“The legal basis for this is verse 12 of surah Yasin in the Quran,” he explained.
He also revealed that Friday prayers in the Court used to take place impermanently, sometimes at the hall of the main building, sometimes at the lobby in front of the plenary courtroom. This mosque will provide a permanent location for it.
“Now before Friday prayer, we can perform tahiyyatul majid prayer, while we used to perform tahiyyatul hall,” he joked.
Prior to the sermon, Secretary-General Heru Setiawan reported that twenty years since the Court’s inception, it finally has a mosque. It can hold 550-600 people during prayers. It is also equipped with technology. “Thank you for your contribution to the founding of the Constitutional Court’s mosque,” he said.
