JAKARTA (MKRI) The Constitutional Court (MK) received an open-letter from the Civil Society Coalition for Democracy and Anti-Corruption, comprising activists, intellectuals, and figures on democracy, human rights, and anti-corruption on March 4, 2024 in its 2nd building. The letter was formally received by head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Budi Wijayanto, head of the National Affairs and Institutional Relations Division Andi Hakim, and head of the International Affairs Department Immanuel Hutasoit.

In the letter, they request that the Court summons President Joko Widodo along with eight of his officials to testify in the 2024 presidential election results dispute (PHPU) hearing. The officials are Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto. Additionally, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, TNI (National Army) Commander Agus Subiyanto, and Chief of State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan are among those requested for summons.

“In today’s letter, we submitted an open-letter requesting that the constitutional justices present and request information from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, as well as eight ministers and officials of ministries/institutions whose testimonies considered crucial for the PHPU hearing today,” declared Usman Hamid, a representative of the coalition.

Usman acknowledged that there is a limited time for settling the 2024 presidential election results disputes. Nevertheless, he expressed hope that the constitutional justices would consider the letter. “This is for the sake of material truth, for the attainment of substantial justice,” he emphasized.

He believes the letter addresses several key points. One of them is Jokowi’s alleged role in influencing the 2024 election. “Whether it is through the distribution of social assistance or the deployment of TNI and Police personnel (Polri),” he said.

The coalition comprises notable figures including former Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) coordinator Adnan Topan Husodo, former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Agus Rahardjo, Transparency International secretary-general Danang Widoyoko, constitutional law expert Feri Amsari, former KPK investigator Novel Baswedan, former KPK chairman Saut Situmorang, chairman of the advisory board of the Public Virtue Research Institute Tamrin Amal, director of Amnesty International Indonesia Usman Hamid, and Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) advisor Titi Anggraeni. Additionally, numerous organizations have participated in this coalition, such as the IM57+ Institute, LBHAP PP Muhammadiyah, Center for Law and Policy Studies, Public Virtue Research Institute, Salam 4 Jari Movement, and Cross-College Anti-Corruption Movement.
