JAKARTA (MKRI) — To strengthen their respective functions and duties, the Ethics Council of the Constitutional Court (MKMK) and the Constitutional Justices held a closed meeting in the Delegation Room, Building 1 of the Constitutional Court on Tuesday afternoon, March 5, 2024. In this warm and intimate meeting, Chairman of MKMK I Dewa Gede Palguna said that MKMK, which is tasked with maintaining the code of ethics and upholding the honor of constitutional justices, felt the need to exchange ideas and views approaching the time of the constitutional justices' great task in 2024, especially in carrying out their duties as guardians of democracy through the handling of the General Elections Results Dispute (PHPU) cases of the President and Legislature in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.
"For this reason, the meeting between Constitutional Justices and MKMK was initiated to strengthen the functions and duties of both MKMK and constitutional justices. As MKMK is tasked with maintaining and upholding the honor and code of ethics of the justices, it is necessary for MKMK to harmonize this task. In addition, soon, constitutional justices will face the handling of the 2024 PHPU case," said Palguna, who attended the meeting with Constitutional Justice Ridwan Mansyur and Yuliandri as MKMK members.
During the meeting, the constitutional justices shared their views regarding the establishment and start of MKMK's permanent work and the existence of the MKMK secretariat in the Constitutional Court. All constitutional justices felt very optimistic about the existence of MKMK. Because its existence can be part of a preventive measure for justices to be more careful in carrying out their duties and functions to protect the constitution and democracy.
The permanent MKMK consists of three persons: one constitutional justice, one public figure, and one academic with a background in law. Constitutional Justice Ridwan Mansyur represents active constitutional justices, I Dewa Gede Palguna (constitutional justice for 2003-2008 and 2015-2020) represents public figures, while Yuliandri as a law academic. Their term of office spans January 8 to December 31, 2024, with the authority as stipulated in Constitutional Court Regulation (PMK) No. 1 of 2023.
