JAKARTA (MKRI) — Secretary-General Heru Setiawan with second deputy registrar Wiryanto and head of the Legal Affairs and Registrar Administration Bureau Fajar Laksono Suroso met with the Technical Deputy of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Eberta Kawima on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the KPU Building.

At the occasion, Heru coordinated with the KPU regarding the schedule and stages of handling the general election results disputes (PHPU). He emphasized that the Constitutional Court (MK) is always ready to adapt to developments within the KPU.

Kawima explained that the recapitulation of vote count results should be completed no later than March 20, 2024. He said the process is highly dynamic and depends on the processes in the regions, thus might not be completed without a specified schedule.

Heru explained that the case handling process in the Court is highly dependent on the recapitulation process at the KPU. Considering that Eid al-Fitr of 1445 Hijriah falls on April, the sooner the KPU announces the results of the recapitulation, the resolution of the presidential election results disputes in the Court may be completed before Eid al-Fitr, potentially serving as a moment for national reconciliation.

However, the Court will wait for the KPU’s decision, considering numerous issues that arose during the regional vote count recapitulation process. Regarding this matter, Kawima expressed the same hope.

In addition, at the meeting, the stages of handling election results disputes in the Court were also discussed. This includes the readiness of infrastructure that may be utilized by the KPU and the Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) during the PHPU resolution process, as well as the model and system of handling PHPU cases in the Court.

Second deputy registrar Wiryanto explained that the number of representatives from each party allowed to enter the courtroom will be limited. However, all litigating parties may still attend virtually. He stated that those present in the courtroom must be registered and receive registration proof from the Court.
