JAKARTA (MKRI) — As proof of the Constitutional Court’s (MK) commitment to information openness to the public, Chief Justice Suhartoyo unveiled a media center located on the ground floor of the Court’s main building on Thursday, January 18, 2024. In a brief speech, he said the revamped media center was an opportunity to show the Court’s openness of everything that it has and will do in performing its duties and authority. He highlighted that the decline in public trust in the Court requires it to restore public trust while exercising its authority as mandated by the Constitution.
“This is part of [the constitutional justices’] commitment when being sworn-in not too long ago. Hopefully, with the media center, members of the press can become the Court’s bridge with the public/society. After observing the room, which has been equipped with basic facilities that media teams need, any inputs for improvement or suggested equipment can be communicated to the Court’s staff members in order to maximize the benefits of this room,” said the chief justice alongside Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra, Constitutional Justice Enny Nurbaningsih, Secretary-General Heru Setiawan, and acting head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau Budi Wijayanto.
Before guests from print and electronic media, who attended the event on site and online, Chief Justice Suhartoyo also revealed his hope that in order to obtain judicial information, journalists may contact the Court’s spokesperson, Constitutional Justice Enny Nurbaningsih. Meanwhile, in order to get non-judicial information, they may contact the Court’s PR team.
In order to maintain rapport with the public, the Court will schedule routine press conference with journalists who cover the Court proceedings. “We will also schedule routine conference with journalists, at least once a month… as long as it does not hinder Court hearings,” the chief justice stressed.
After cutting a ribbon to signify the inauguration of the media center, Chief Justice Suhartoyo talked to the press, who were welcome to pose questions and provide inputs for the Court’s improvement.
