SURABAYA (MKRI) — The Constitutional Court (MK) and the Association of Indonesian Advocates (Peradin) held a workshop on the procedural law for the 2024 general election results disputes (PHPU) on Friday-Saturday, December 8-9, 2023 in Surabaya, East Java Province.

“Because this is a political year, everyone is working hard to prepare in line with their respective professions, authority, and functions. The Constitutional Court, the KPU (General Elections Commission), advocates are preparing everything,” said Fajar Laksono, head of the Legal Affairs and Registrar Administration Bureau, while opening the workshop.

Fajar added that the Court prepares to keep democratic values according to statutory regulations. Through this workshop, advocates also participated in maintaining values of electoral democracy as a benchmark for the country in democracy.

Furthermore, Fajar said that the Constitutional Court collaborates with stakeholders, including advocates, to ensure that so that all parties understand the procedure to resolve disputes over the upcoming election.

“As the guardian of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court cannot act alone. It needs synergy [with other stakeholders],” he stressed.

Fajar revealed that the Constitutional Court was experiencing extraordinary dynamics. Currently, it wishes to regain public trust.

“Therefore, the Court cannot act alone. It needs stakeholders to restore public trust,” he concluded.
