JAKARTA (MKRI) — On Friday, December 8, 2023, Ridwan Mansyur took an oath as a constitutional justice in front of President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace in Jakarta. The Supreme Court (MA) appointed him as a constitutional justice to succeed Manahan M.P. Sitompul, who has gone into retirement.
“By God, I swear that I will fulfill my obligations of chief justice of the Constitutional Court to the best of my abilities and in the fairest of manners, uphold the 1945 Constitution, and strictly observe all laws and regulations as prescribed by the 1945 Constitution, and to devote myself to the country and the people,” Ridwan swore.
Ridwan was appointed as a constitutional justice based on Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 98P of 2023 on the dismissal and appointment of constitutional justice proposed by the Supreme Court. Previously, he served as chief registrar of the Supreme Court since 2021.
After taking his oath, Justice Ridwan said to the press that he had prepared for the 2024 general election because the Court will examine and adjudicate general election results dispute (PHPU) cases. “[God willing], I have prepared myself with my experience in the Supreme Court, and I am ready to join with the other constitutional justices,” he said.
Justice Ridwan Mansyur was born on November 11, 1959 in Lahat, South Sumatera. The husband of Rita Iryani was elected a constitutional justice after passing the selection process eliminating four others, High Disciplinary Judge M. Manao, Jakarta High Court Chief Judge Binsar Gultom, East Kalimantan High Court Judge Eddy Parulian Siregar, and West Nusa Tenggara High Court Chief Judge Achmad Setyo Pudjoharsoyo.
The official website of the Supreme Court’s Registrar’s Office stated that Ridwan’s career began as a judge candidate for the Bekasi District Court in 1986. He then began his tenure as a judge at the Muara Enim District Court in 1989.
In 1998, he was transferred to become a judge at the Cibinong District Court. Four years later, he was transferred to the Central Jakarta District Court, where he served as a judge until mid-2006.
Ridwan Mansyur was entrusted with the position of deputy chief judge of the Purwakarta District Court in 2006. A year later, he was made deputy chief judge of the Batam District Court subsequently promoted to chief judge in 2008.
In 2010, he received a promotion to chief judge of Class IA Special of Palembang District Court. In 2012, the Supreme Court promoted him to the Jakarta High Court, where he served as head of the Supreme Court’s Legal and Public Relations Bureau for nearly five years (2012-2017).
In mid-2017, he was appointed as deputy chief judge of the Bangka Belitung High Court until the end of 2018. Next, he was transferred to Tanjungkarang High Court as deputy chief judge at the end of 2018.
In 2020, he was promoted to deputy chief judge of Semarang High Court. Not even a year at the leadership ladder of the Semarang High Court, he was appointed the Supreme Court’s chief registrar.
