JAKARTA (MKRI) — A total of 50 students from the Law Faculty of Satya Wacana Christian University Salatiga (UKSW) visited the Court and they were welcomed by expert assistant to constitutional justice Winda Wijayanti in the delegation room in the Court’s main building on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

In her presentation, Winda explained the initial idea of the establishment, the authority, and the obligation of the Constitutional Court. The Court has the authority to conduct judicial review of laws against the 1945 Constitution, to decide upon authority disputes between state institutions whose authority is granted by the 1945 Constitution, to decide upon the dissolution of political parties, and to decide upon disputes over the results of general elections.

“In addition, the Court also has the authority to decide upon disputes over the results of regional elections. This is because there is no legal entity or institution that has such authority. The court also has the obligation to decide the House’s allegation of violations by the president and/or vice president (impeachment),” she said.

She also conveyed the number of cases that the Court had received over the past two decades. “For the past two decades, the Court has had 3,548 cases, mostly regional head election cases at 1,136 cases. Meanwhile, there are 1,707 judicial review cases, 676 general election results dispute cases, and 29 inter-state institution authority dispute cases,” she added.

Furthermore, Winda also said that the Court’s decisions are final and binding, and they apply to all without exception. “The Constitutional Court’s decisions are final and binding since they are pronounced. The decisions are erga omnes or apply to all citizens and all those who are related [to the law],” Winda stated.

After the presentation, the students visited the Constitution History Center (Puskon) and the Constitutional Court’s Library.
