JAKARTA (MKRI) — Chief Justice Anwar Usman received the Nugra Jasa Dharma Pustaloka award in the category of lifetime achievement 2023 from the National Library (Perpusnas) for successfully making the Constitutional Court (MK) a judicial institution that published the most books in Asia. This raised Indonesia’s ranking from 30th to 7th in terms of books published by country based on the World Intellectual Property Organization.

This statement was made by the National Library’s head Muhammad Syarif Bando at a National Library event on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra was awarded the Nugra Jasa Dharma Pustaloka in the category of public officials.

In his speech, the Chief Justice said that reading has developed in such a way to support a nation to move forward in a better direction. He also stated that he often looked for arguments of law and justice in the holy books of other religions. He further said that people who work in libraries are chosen ones who had been given great rewards for providing knowledge for others to educate the nation’s life as mandated by the Constitution.

He revealed that Deputy Chief Justice Saldi Isra had encouraged the culture of writing in the Court. Despite his busy schedule, he writes books and always encourages all justices and Court employees to write as well. Working at a library and writing books, conveying knowledge to others, he believes, is a gift that keeps on giving even though one has passed away.

Chief Justice Anwar also said that people who work in libraries are also indirectly teaching by providing knowledge in the form of books to the public.
