JAKARTA (MKRI)  Constitutional Justices M. Guntur Hamzah and Daniel Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh spoke at a national seminar on "Strengthening State Ideology Pancasila for the Young Generation in Digital Globalization," on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta.

Constitutional Justice M. Guntur Hamzah said that our nation is very lucky because it is able to recognize its identity and has a shield that protects itself from elements that want to undermine the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

Pancasila carries universal principles. "The first universal principle is the second precept (sila), which is ‘just and civilized humanity.’ No country disagrees with this just and civilized humanity principle in the Pancasila. The second principle is unity. No one in this world disagrees with the principle of unity in the third precept, which is ‘A unified Indonesia,’" said Guntur.

Justice Guntur added that Indonesia also follows the principle of democracy, as set forth in the fourth and fifth precepts, i.e. “Democracy, led by the wisdom of the representatives of the People” and “Social justice.” Indonesia is a country that believes in the One True God. "We carry not only universal principles but also religiosity, because we are able to combine those.  I believe as a nation we are very lucky because we have Pancasila," he said.

He said Indonesian citizens have to be aware that the country has a strength that others might not, which is Pancasila. He said we need to recognize the core values of the ideology, look for opportunities to act in line with our beliefs and ideological values, share our thoughts and ideas with others, read books and articles about the ideology, and attend events or workshops that focus on the ideology.

Meanwhile, Constitutional Justice Daniel Yusmic P. Foekh said in the current post-truth era, truth is based on perception, while in the past, truth was based on facts. He also mentioned that Indonesia had been predicted to become the 4th largest country in 2050-2070 by Goldman Sachs and rapid changes require a new mindset.

Justice Foekh also said synergy between the Constitutional Court and Unika Atma Jaya is needed in order to strengthen the ideology Pancasila. He said the Unika Atma Jaya logo, which contains Pancasila, shows the university’s commitment to guarding and making Pancasila the nation’s identity.

He ended his presentation by advising students to be more critical of statements related to the state ideology Pancasila. (*)
